Ride Ready
Preparation is essential to a safe and successful ride. Through maintenance workshops, safety resources, and coordination with local municipalities and law enforcement, VeloSano helps Riders prepare for every mile. Individual readiness plays a key role in overall event safety.
Always wear a bike helmet. Check your helmet condition before you ride.
Ensure your bike is tuned-up before you ride. Oil the chain, test gears and check brakes.
Others expect you to continue straight ahead at a constant speed unless you indicate differently.
Bike lights help road users and pedestrians see you.
Keep ears free. Do not use headphones or cell phones while riding.
Watch out at intersections. Confirm that it is safe to cross before proceeding.
Use verbal commands and hand signals to alert drivers and riders when you turn, slow or stop.
Make sure your tires have enough air and carry extra tubes and a bike tire repair kit at all times.
You should always pass others on their left. Say “on your left” out loud to warn them.
Announce hazards like potholes, glass, sand, etc. to other riders around you.
View a Bike to Cure Rider Safety video, that visually takes you through the importance of bike safety and proper bike etiquette.
